Once upon a time ….

Some authors choose to use incidents or conflict to begin the story.

Examples:

  • ‘How to eat Fried Worms’ by Thomas Rockwell begins with Billy, Alan, Joe and Tom arguing over what they would or would not eat.
  • ‘The Search for Delicious’ has everyone in the court arguing about what foods they think are delicious.
  • Almost every book in the ‘Harry Potter’ series by J.K. Rowling starts with a disagreeable incident at the Dursleys.
