Who would you cheer on?

I have read a couple of books where the authors seem to want the reader to cheer on or encourage a character or two. I felt like that with Billy in “How to Eat Fried Worms” and Penny from “Penny Pollard’s Letters”. Have you read any books like that?

I work with many books.

I like reading stories.

I see most of the students in the school at least once a week.

My favourite story when I was a child was the old fairy tale ‘The Twelve Dancing Princesses’ by the Brothers Grimm.

What would you ask your favourite author?

Last week, Miss Andrea, Lola and I had the joy of attending the launch of Jackie French’s new book ‘A Rose for the ANZAC Boys’. Mrs French talked about her life and books for nearly an hour and then we were able to ask questions. Someone asked her what her favourite book is. She has many favourite books, so she couldn’t really answer that one. Someone asked her about wombats, so she told us all about the adventures of living with so many of these animals.

So, who is your favourite author and what would you like to ask him/her if you could? Remember that popular authors are asked some questions again and again, so you probably need to know something about the author to ask be given an interesting answer.

Examples:

Leif from the Deltora Quest series is brave and a good friend;
Will from the Ranger’s Apprentice is quick-witted and courageous;
Hermione of the Harry Potter series is very clever and a great researcher.

Some authors choose to use incidents or conflict to begin the story.

Examples:

‘How to eat Fried Worms’ by Thomas Rockwell begins with Billy, Alan, Joe and Tom arguing over what they would or would not eat.
‘The Search for Delicious’ has everyone in the court arguing about what foods they think are delicious.
Almost every book in the ‘Harry Potter’ series by J.K. Rowling starts with a disagreeable incident at the Dursleys.
